IPSC Rules
IPSC Rulebook
Most of the rules governing our sport are covered by the IPSC Rulebook. There have been
over 16 different incarnations of the rulebook since its inception in the early 1970's. As
the sport has evolved, so have the rules. Our current operating edition is the
Handgun, January 2009 edition.
For other rulebooks concerning Rifle, Shotgun and Tournaments, please visit the
IPSC Rules page.
Rules Interpretations
In addition to the rulebook, IPSC publishes Rules Interpretations which allows for modification
or clarification of the rules without creating a new edition. These are published on the
IPSC Rules page.
Rules Exemptions
The needs of the various Regional Directorates within IPSC are diverse. To account for
local legislation and other factors, IPSC recognizes that some regions are exempt from
portions of the rulebook.
IPSC Canada Rules Exemptions
can be found on the National Range Officers Institute (NROI) website.
BC House Rules
IPSC BC maintains its own clarifications to the rules. Most of these rules are administrative,
dealing with local classification, team selection and other details not covered by the
IPSC Rulebook. 2010 IPSCBC House Rules
